Getting out over waves on a SUP / How to video

In this SUPboarder ‘How to video’ we take a basic look at getting out over waves on a SUP. When you first start getting into surf you will probably find yourself paddling out on your knees a fair bit. But ideally you should be aiming to paddle out standing up. With practice this will allow you to paddle over bigger waves and conserve more energy for the fun stuff… surfing! We go over the basic principles to help get you out over the waves in no time.

Boards used in the video :

JP Australia 9’8” Fusion 152L
Fanatic 8’7” Stubby Foil 120L

Putting this technique into use is actually quite fun. I reckon you also earn some respect from the prone surfers when they see you paddling out and over the waves they have to duck-dive through! It feels like a minor achievement when you surf in on a wave, turn off it without falling off and manage to paddle out-back, all without falling into the water.
