Surfboard Shaping: Fish Swallow Tail

Shapers Notes: In this vid I tackle what some will see as a daunting task. The Fish Swallow Tail. Here I show my method of how to do a big swallow tail for our fourth Twin Fin model. Feel free to leave a comment or request for future Shapers Notes.

Hi, very good video. I have a question on the tail shape. How did you measure the twin fin curve, is there a formula? I saw that you use a paper but I was thinking what is the amount of curve. Thanks

So I recently bought a used twin fish and the previous owner reshaped the tail. To give you an idea of what I’m looking at, it’s basically a straight V shape cut into the tail, so it isn’t rounded towards the rails like a normal fish tail. The foam is also a straight cut downward, so there’s no foiling. Do you have an idea of how this will affect the dynamics of the board when ridden? Do you think I’ll need to foil it and round out the V shape into more of a classic fishtail template? Any insight would be appreciated

where can you purchase templates for the fish shape?

Very cool. Any attempts at moontails? Trying to get my stringer to match the curve is a nightmare…
