Channel Islands/Al Merrick Pod Surfboard Review

The Channel Islands Pod surfboard by Al Merrick.

This little fun-punter has been a worldwide favourite for more than a decade.

Equipped with deep concaves, a foiled nose and a tucked in swallow tail to keep the Pod lively and maintain it’s high performance. The slightly fuller “snub nose” increases the volume up-front, allowing for maximum planing, wave catching and the ability to ride out of those air-reverses. The wide and curvy outline makes the Pod a useable surfboard for a wide range of surfing abilities. Experienced surfers looking for air-time should ride the Pod 3 – 6″ shorter than they are tall, while intermediate riders looking for slightly fuller, more forgiving outline than a normal shortboard should keep a little more length.
